Sports Massage
Sports massage can be used at any stage throughout the athlete's training cycle to enhance recovery and performance. However, the most common types of sports massage treatments that athletes will use throughout the year will be: -
Maintenance
Maintenance treatments are used throughout an athletes season or build-up phase to a specific goal, competition or event.
Pre-event
Pre-event treatment is only a very short treatment used immediately before your event at your competition or training venue. The specifics of what would be included in this treatment would vary depending on the requirements of the sport.
Post-event
Post-event treatments are used to speed up the recovery process from a recent sporting event. This allows the athlete to be back feeling normal, quicker. The timing of post-event treatments is important, so it is best to discuss this ahead of time with your therapist to work out how long you want to leave it between the finish of your event and seeking treatment as this will be different for different sports.
